Patricia D’Arcy Laughlin’s Sacrifice For A Kingdom Lunch With An Author Event was held at the Village Community Center Island Room in Key Biscayne and was featured in The Islander News on July 16, 2015 in the following article written by Kelly Josephsen:
“With characters that spark reflection on compelling religious and political issues, settings that carry readers to exotic locations and love scenes some compare to 50 Shades of Grey, today’s pick for Lunch with an Author is sure to have residents talking.
While locals may know Laughlin for her visual art, it is the written word that she presents at today’s event. “As far back as I can remember, I have always written stories, songs and poetry, many in my head but some in little notebooks, most of which I have lost in the course of the many ‘movings’ of my life. Sacrifice For A Kingdom is a love story that is both timely yet timeless. It covers numerous and various sitatuions because it deals with believable lives, but lives which are exciting and not mediocre.”
“My characters are in love. Usually people in love have great sex. My protagonists are healthy, young, don’t have major financial stresses, travel to interesting places, and lead exciting, dangeorus lives, so great sex is normal to them.”
Sacrifice For A Kingdom strives to make its characters real people who inspire thought. “I wanted them to inspire with inner strength and integrity to overcome major obstacles, but most of all, I wanted them to have the courage to give themselves up to loving completely.
I wanted my book to contribute to the open-hearted people as well as the open-minded. I was compelled to write about more factual things, such as the damage done to all of humanity by patriarchal religions that have run the planet for two plus millennia with their discrimination against females. The violence perpetuated by gender-power-imbalance has contributed greatly to the wars and destruction still so prevalent on our planet. Too many people worldwide still bury their heads in the sand about the reasons for the violence — and that if it is not stopped, it will lead to humanity’s and probably the planet’s, demise.”
The blend of love, adventure, and social consciousness is perhaps Sacrifice For A Kingdom‘s most defining quality.”
